At 5895m Kilimanjaro offers one of the more physically challenging and culturally rewarding adventures.
The Machame route, also referred to as the “Whiskey route” is probably the most beautiful route to the summit of Kilimanjaro. It is suited to all levels of adventurous trekker, rewarding their intrepid nature with the scenic splendour. From the late afternoon sunsets at Shira camp, to the misty revelations of the summits glaciers and magnificent views of the great Barranco Wall. This is also the best route for acclimatization, so has the highest success rate of all the routes.

Brief itinerary
- Day 1 – Depart the U.K.
- Day 2 – Arrive Kilimanjaro airport
- Day 3 – Machame Gate to Machame Camp. Ascent: from 1,800 meters to 3,000 meters, distance: 11 km
- Day 4 – Machame Camp to Shira Camp. Ascent: 3,000 meters to 3,820 meters, distance: 5 km
- Day 5 – Shira Camp to Lava Tower then to Barranco Camp. Ascent: 3,820 meters 4640 meters then to 3,972 meters. Distance: Ascend 7.5 km; Descend 5km (total 12.5 km)
- Day 6 – Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp. Ascent: 3,972 meters to 4,660 meters, distance: 10 km
- Day 7 – Karanga camp 3950 metres to Barafu Camp 4660 metres (ice camp.)
- Day 8- Barafu Camp to Uhuru peak to Millennium Camp Ascent/Descent: 4,660 meters to 5,895 meters then to 3,790 meters distance: 15/20 km
- Day 9- Millennium Camp to Mweka Gate. Descent: 3,790 meters to 1,660 meters, distance: 15/10 km
- Day 10 – Depart Kilimanjaro
- Day 11 – Arrive back in the UK
